Why You Should Use Signup Confirmation (Double Opt-in)
It’s no coincidence that email activation is enabled the first time you install the plugin.
There are 3 reasons to use email activation
- Avoid fake emails entered by evil robots
- Mistyped emails get filtered out
- You want loyal subscribers that will go all the way to get on your list
The last point is important. If you start thinking about your audience in quantity over quality, you start indeed thinking like a spammer. No good.
Unconfirmed subscribers won’t receive any emails
Until a subscriber confirms, he simply won’t receive anything.
I have over 25% of unconfirmed subscribers!
It’s normal to have plenty of unconfirmed subscribers. If your mailinglist is for an older generation of people or a group of computer illiterates, there’s a good chance that your unconfirmed might be around 30%.
A good example: Almost there… activate your subscription!
A bad example: We’ve registered your subscription, thank you.
How do I resend the activation email?
Right now, it’s not possible. This feature is planned.
If someone has lost his activation email, he (or you) simply needs to subscribe again to get a new one.
Changing the activation email’s content
You can change the behavior of this feature in the Subscription Activation Email tab in the Settings of the plugin in your WordPress administration pages, here:

Disabling the Activation Email
Sometimes you simply don’t want the activation email, because:
- Your audience might be complete computer illiterates
- Your audience might actually not go online regularly. When they get online, your activation email is lost in their inbox
- Worst, your activation emails get labeled as spam and never show up in the inbox.
All unconfirmed subscribers become “subscribed” when you turn off the activation email feature. If you switch back, they’ll become unconfirmed again.
Users who have subscribed while the activation email was turned off will be confirmed once if you turn on the activation email.
